Information Week has an article that references ONI's China country study, and that quotes Cisco's Chief Development Officer as stating that 1) China acquired Cisco tech through a reseller and 2) the features used to filter Web pages are the same as those used to block viruses. Rebecca MacKinnon seems to have gotten a different story - Cisco's Director of Corporate Affairs said that the company sells networking equipment directly to China's Public Security Bureaus. Ethan Gutmann disagrees as well. The U.S. Congress is looking into this question, with help from ONI's John Palfrey.
