In May 2008, it was reported by Syrian blogger AN@SONLINE [ar] that the Arabic language version of Wikipedia had been filtered by Syrian authorities. A number of Syrian users confirmed this report.

As recently as February 4, it had been reported to Herdict Web that the site was inaccessible, however, on February 14, AN@SONLINE reported the site to be accessible; reports to Herdict Web on February 16 and today corroborated that fact.

Syria is known to block a number of other sites, including YouTube and the blogspot.com domain.
