In the wake of a June 10 school bombing, the Japanese government has proposed new cyber security measures. One measure would allow police to force ISPs to release personal information on webmasters who maintain sites encouraging suicide. The proposal also calls for research and swift implementation of government filtering software, and for increased police monitoring of the Internet for groups planning group suicide. A committee is expected to make a decision on the measures within as little as a week.
