As access to the internet spreads in the Maghreb, the issue of how to protect children in cyberspace is drawing attention from families and lawmakers. Separate programmes in Algeria and Tunisia aim to educate adults about online risks and shield youngsters from paedophiles, racism and violence.

On the occasion of World Telecommunications Day on Sunday (May 17th), the Algerian ministries of education, communications and families signed an agreement to set up a working group to keep children informed about their vulnerabilities and to minimise risk.
