Whatever your opinion of the UAE's policy of blocking access to certain websites, recent changes to exactly how this is done should, I believe, be applauded.
A couple of weeks ago, the Telecoms Regulatory Authority (TRA) ruled that the (rather alarmingly red) "Site Blocked" screen should now include a list detailing exactly what sort of website content is banned.

The head of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Sir Tim Berners-Lee has decided that there is too much "disinformation" on the internet regarding things like the danger of vaccines. Thus he proposes that free speech should now be censored using a rating system overseen by the same group of corporate cronies, pharmaceutical giants, war mongers and fiat bankers that have been robbing, poisoning and pilfering the world for decades.

The law on "suicide websites" is to be rewritten to ensure people know they are illegal, the government has said.
It follows concerns people searching for information on suicide are more likely to find sites encouraging the act than offering support.
