Threats to the Open Net: April 13, 2012

  • Iran's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has denied that they are planning a domestic intranet. In a statement, they claimed that rumors about an intranet were the result of hostile propaganda from the west.
  • Major software and Internet companies have come out in support of CISPA. Facebook, Microsoft, IBM, among other major players in Silicon Valley, have all written to the House Committee on Intelligence that they support CISPA's attempt to address cyberattacks and cybersecurity.
  • China's Firewall blocked all foreign websites briefly on Friday. Users in all major cities including Beijing and Shanghai reported that they were unable to access non-Chinese websites. This comes after Anonymous launched attacks on several Chinese websites last week.
