Kazakhstan has been blocking the popular WordPress.com blogging platform since June. In an official statement, the country's main ISP says this is due to two "illegal" blogs. Bloggers however claim that the block is part of a strategy to silence criticism of a customs union with Russia and Belarus.

Russia's Communications Ministry is considering legislation to censor offensive comments left on online media websites. A current draft would give increased power to media regulators to demand for comments to be deleted. Blogs and social networking sites, however, would not be affected.
